School of Law

“Our world, as it emerges from this pandemic, will be very different than it was only a short time ago.  It will need a new type of legal practitioner -- one educated about the ways in which the enhanced use of technology is changing the field; one who is innovative and practice ready; and one who is deeply grounded in issues of social justice and committed to an ethos of public service.  UCI Law was founded with a vision to redefine, reimagine and reinvent legal education, and that has never been more relevant than it is at this moment.” – L. Song Richardson, Dean and Chancellor’s Professor of Law

The University of California, Irvine School of Law is the culmination of several generations of revolutionary dreams with a vision to redefine, reimagine and reinvent legal education. We undergo our 11th year, a larger, stronger, more dynamic academic institution than its founders could have ever imagined. UCI Law faces and tackles unpredicted challenges head-on, proving our institutional resiliency during a time of national crisis. More than ever, this vision remains unwavering in its importance.

UCI Law provides an innovative and comprehensive curriculum, prioritizing public service and a commitment to diversity within the legal profession. Instilling these values continues to be at the very core of UCI Law’s mission since opening our doors in 2009. In the past decade, 90 percent of all UCI Law students have provided more than 100,000 hours of pro bono work and 45 percent of UCI Law’s graduates are students of color. The collaborative and interdisciplinary community at UCI Law includes extraordinary students, world-renowned faculty, engaged alumni, and enthusiastic supporters.

UCI Law is No. 7 among public universities and No. 27 overall according to U.S. News and World Report ranking of Best Law Schools. U.S. News & World Report also ranks UCI Law:

  • No. 8 overall for Clinical Training
  • No. 9 for Diversity
  • No. 11 for Tax Law
  • No. 11 for Legal Writing

We come together now, proud of where we stand, hopeful and optimistic for how we will be on the other side of the challenges we face, and, fully knowing and appreciative of the fact that we wouldn’t be where we are today without key supports like yourself. We look forward to continuing this remarkable journey alongside our faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners. “UCI Law is unlike any other law school. The school has a family-like structure that you will not find anywhere else. At UCI Law, support comes from classmates, administrators, faculty and the surrounding community. Everyone encourages innovative, cutting-edge ideas. If you have an idea, people will jump to the opportunity to help and support you. We laugh together, we celebrate each other’s achievements together, and we lift each other up frequently. Collegiality is truly weaved into the fabric of the school and I could not ask for more from a law school. Being a law student can be hard, but having a warm, loving community that cares for you makes it better!” - Rose Lyn, Class of 2020
