UCI Giving Day 2020

Thank you for your interest in supporting undergraduate students within the School of Physical Sciences.

The School of Physical Sciences teaches nearly 97% of all UCI graduating seniors; these students have taken at least one math or foundational science class in Physical Sciences prior to graduation. Our school has almost 2,500 undergraduate students in the Departments of Chemistry, Earth System Science, Mathematics, and Physics & Astronomy. Last year we had more than 8,000 undergraduate applications to the School of Physical Sciences for just 602 spots. Approximately 30% of our students are on the Dean’s List each quarter and nearly 40% of our graduating seniors have completed at least one quarter of research in STEM by the time they graduate. At UCI we are very proud that more than 45% of our students are the first to attend college in their families and more than 35% come from low-income backgrounds.

Our students benefit from the supplemental undergraduate programs we offer. We believe strongly in the impact of our programs and devote funding to support their operational expenses. Those funds only take us so far, so we are asking for your support to keep these programs running and thriving. Every gift counts.

Me 1st Program – Pre-Calculus summer program for entering First-Generation students (cost: $40 per student)

First Achievers – Counselors tutor one-on-one with all 1st-Generation freshmen (cost: $110 per student)

In the upcoming academic year, we will be able to adapt these programs to virtual offerings, if needed.

Our students thrive in a diverse environment of inclusive excellence and emerge from our programs ready to transform the world. Equipped with a premier education, technical acumen, and an ethos of creative thinking, our graduates go on to unearth new knowledge and help build a future for the broader good. Our alumni are heading top companies around the world, developing new drugs and therapies, and finding solutions for a clean-energy economy. They work in national and global agencies to influence policy and you’ll find them in classrooms around the globe teaching the next generation of leaders.
