This year has been especially challenging for CalTeach students due to the COVID-19 virus. Many students had to return home, lost their campus-based jobs, and had to assume additional responsibilities to support their families. Regardless, student teachers continued to help their mentor teachers and students remotely. They conducted instruction via video, created curriculum, graded, and worked with students one on one. Numerous student needs arose during this time that we were able to meet, including the need for school supplies and additional materials. With uncertainty remaining about what schools, both at UCI and at the K-12 levels, will look like next school year, your help is especially appreciated to meet unexpected and urgent needs.
The UCI CalTeach program works in collaboration with the School of Physical Sciences and the School of Biological Sciences to provide undergraduate science and math students with the opportunity to earn a teaching credential alongside their bachelor’s degree. Since CalTeach’s first graduating cohort in 2012, we have contributed over 100 math and science students to California’s teaching force. Of those graduates, 97% of them are still teaching today!
Your donation today will help alleviate the financial burden our students face in pursuing a teaching credential (upwards of $1,000). Specifically, your support today will help fund:
Thank you in advance for helping prepare our students to be future math and science educators!
