UCI Sustainability Resource Center

The Sustainability Resource Center (SRC) is a hub for students, providing resources, education, and programming to forward environmental balance, economic vitality, and social equity. Students, as well as campus and community partners, are invited to share a platform from which to address the root causes of ecological disruption, deepen understandings of the interdependence of all life, and engage the challenges and solutions of sustainability in a campus, community, and global context.

The SRC is anchored by a physical resource center offering a host of student services. Students come into the SRC via our outreach programs, internship/fellowship placements, and trainings pathway. So far this academic year, we made over 3,700 contacts through 70 training sessions, campus-wide and hall programs, SRC hosted events, and presentation requests. One of the ways we are meeting the moment and adapting to the remote learning environment is the launch of a reimagined University Affairs Earth Reps course, centering student leadership for community resilience in the face of COVID-19.

This Giving Day, we invite you to support us in cultivating a campus culture of sustainability. Your gift to the UCI Community Resilience Projects Fund will provide important resources for the following programs.

Student Leadership Institute for Climate Resilience (SLICR)

Developed at UCI, the Student Leadership Institute for Climate Resilience (SLICR) is a three-day residential intensive that provides participants with an overview of some of the major challenges and opportunities we face in building community climate resilience, as well as tools for action. With SLICR trainings now propagating across multiple UC campuses, a UC-wide cohort of transformative change makers is emerging. We are seeking assistance in meeting the rising costs of UCI Conference and Events Services, Parking, and Catering for this event, and to keep it accessible to student participants.

Student Internship Placement Sponsorships

The SRC hosts a variety of internship positions, offering students a unique experience to learn outside of the classroom.Modeled as campus as a living lab internship, we seek to place students in applied positions for on-campus sustainability projects and in the community. SRC is proud to create and offer so many paid student internships. These paid roles are key for students to be able to dedicate time to this kind of learning and professional development experience.

Ants in Your Plants Garden

The Ants in Your Plants Garden is one of four UC Irvine-based community gardens that serve as laboratories for hands-on sustainability education, student professional development, community engagement, and research on creating sustainable communities. In addition to educational and recreational uses, the garden is used to grow fresh, local, and organic produce to be donated to the FRESH Basic Needs Hub on campus. We are seeking support for garden maintenance supplies and tools.

This is just a small sampling of the power that your gift can have at the Sustainability Resource Center. With your help, we will continue to unleash youth leadership for community resilience to a changing climate.
