UCI Initiative to End Family Violence

Domestic Violence Clinic students with Director Jane Stoever at a local high school where they hosted a prevention-education workshop

“You saved my life,” Sara reflected after the UCI Domestic Violence Clinic helped Sara escape abuse. Sara’s high school boyfriend had burned Sara’s arm with a hot iron and regularly physically, sexually, and emotionally abused her. With the UCI Domestic Violence Clinic’s legal representation to secure court protection and immigration status, coupled with medical care and emotional support, Sara is now violence-free and thriving in nursing school. Her sister said, “You gave me back my sister. Our family can’t thank you enough.”

With your support, the UCI Initiative to End Family Violence can continue its work toward a world in which people of all ages are safe within their families and relationships. Give for:

  • Prevention-education workshops at high schools in Orange County
  • Interdisciplinary faculty research and graduate student fellowships on effective interventions in abuse
  • Enhanced cross-disciplinary responses, including legal, medical, and therapeutic interventions
  • Supporting a survivor’s travel expenses to be a speaker in our Survivor Series

The UCI Initiative to End Family Violence unites faculty from over 20 departments at UCI with community partners in groundbreaking interdisciplinary research, education, and clinical interventions in family violence.

“The UCI Initiative to End Family Violence does so much for our OC community, as well has helping to prepare the next generations of leaders in this important work. The more attention we can call to issues of intimate partner/dating violence, sexual assault, and how we as the OC and UCI communities respond the better for all of us!” Dr. Candace W. Burton

The UCI Initiative to End Family Violence brings together an unprecedented range of disciplines and experts, and is unique in tackling violence across the lifespan—from child abuse to teen dating violence and sexual assault to intimate partner violence and elder abuse. Our work addresses the intergenerational and interconnected aspects of family violence and gender-based violence.
