The FRESH Basic Needs Hub at UCI is a student-initiated effort that promotes equitable access to basic needs resources through student empowerment, community collaboration, and institutional integration. Our aim is to shift cultural consciousness toward an understanding of basic needs as a guaranteed right for every person. We offer a wide range of services aimed to eliminate gaps in food security, housing security, financial well-being and mental wellness. Our signature programs and services include the food and toiletry pantry, CalFresh application assistance, emergency meal swipes, confidential consultations, life skills programs, and now the Farm-to-FRESH voucher program!
With the UCI Basic Needs fund, FRESH developed the Farm-to-FRESH voucher program in partnership with Tanaka Farms to provide additional food relief to students experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this program, pantry visitors can receive monthly vouchers to access fresh, locally-grown produce at the Tanaka Farms Drive-Through Produce Market Stand, open Monday through Sunday from 9-5pm. During a time where food insecurity levels continue to rise, the Farm-to-FRESH voucher program has supported many students struggling with food security by providing access to fresh produce at our local farm.
