UCI Giving Day 2021

The Gender Diversity Program is Orange County’s only interdisciplinary healthcare program devoted exclusively to providing care for transgender and gender diverse young people. Our services include:  

• Patient/family counseling, including community connections and support
• Medical care including puberty suppression, gender-affirming hormone therapy, sexual health education and HIV prevention when indicated 
• Provider and trainee education 
• Community engagement and advocacy

The clinical services provided by our program are geared for transgender identified young people. Our program’s primary advocacy focuses on education for other healthcare professionals, school personnel working with transgender and gender-expansive youth, and transgender identified individuals along with their loved ones. We are dedicated to providing excellent gender affirming care for our patients and ensuring they exist authentically as themselves in their community. 

The overarching goal of UCI Gender Diversity’s educational advocacy is to address the issue of the consistent denial of human, civil and constitutional rights by closing the gap of knowledge surrounding the transgender community. Our program provides community educational lectures that present research-based information for transgender people and their families. Since our inception in 2016, the Gender Diversity Program has expanded LGBTQ provider and trainee education beyond the UCI health system through community outreach and engagement. These efforts have allowed us to extend our advocacy for the transgender community well beyond our own clinical space.
