OUR 6TH ANNUAL GIVING DAY WAS A SUCCESS! IF YOU MISSED THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE BUT WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT UCI, YOU CAN STILL GIVE BY CLICKING HERE
UCI Libraries

UCI Libraries fosters an equitable learning environment by providing students with free access to the resources and educational materials they need for class assignments. This Giving Day, your support will help UCI Libraries continue providing affordable coursework materials for students.

Costs of Education

Attending college is expensive. In addition to tuition and housing costs, students must buy program and course-related materials, such as specialized software, digital content, and publications. The UCI Office of Undergraduate Admissions estimates the yearly cost of books and supplies is $1,346 per student.

When students cannot afford their coursework materials, they may opt to

  • use older materials or editions
  • rent the materials
  • forego the required materials all together

While these options can lower costs in the short run, they are not ideal and can negatively impact student achievement.

Serving All Students

Providing access to free or reduced-cost coursework materials reduces the financial burden on students and even increases graduation and retention rates. Your gift to the Collection Enhancement Fund will help purchase or license educational resources, including streaming content, ebooks, digital tools and more.

By leveraging library-owned content and licensing as many educational resources as possible, UCI Libraries can help all students thrive in today’s academic world. Your gift will help bridge the gap for students from all economic backgrounds and academic disciplines.
