The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened and made visible the inequities in teaching and schools. The impact of the pandemic has been felt by university and K-12 students alike. CalTeach students continue to play a critical role in supporting K-12 students during their fieldwork and student teaching. This year, the program will enroll more UCI students than ever before (over 260). CalTeach students work to support students one-on-one, in small groups, and in whole class instruction, accumulating over 27,000 hours in K-12 classrooms this year. CalTeach students have conducted instruction face to face, via video, created curriculum, and tutored students outside of class time.
We have been able to meet the needs of CalTeach students with support from donors like you, including the needs for fieldsite transportation, technology, school supplies and additional materials. With heightened needs, and a growing program, your help is especially appreciated now, so that we can continue to prepare exceptional math and science teachers to support the diverse communities of students in California.
Your donation today will help alleviate the financial burden our students face in pursuing a teaching credential (upwards of $1,000). Specifically, your support today will help fund:
Your support will have an impact long after students graduate from our program. Since CalTeach’s first graduating cohort in 2012, we have contributed to the preparation of over 400 math and science teachers in California. Of the CalTeach students who complete the full 4-year CalTeach program, 93% are teaching today, with over 70% teaching in low-income underserved communities!
Thank you in advance for helping prepare our students to be future math and science educators!
