The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery remains at the forefront of research and treatment. We are excited to expand orthopedic care to the newly planned UCI Medical Center Irvine-Newport, a full-service academic health complex that will bring a broad spectrum of the most advanced healthcare services to coastal and southern Orange County.  

Our department is also a national leader of educational innovation and resident training. Our training lab provides residents hands-on experience prior to ever entering an operating room. We are currently developing 3-dimensional virtual-reality tools to create an interactive surgical environment, allowing residents and surgeons to experience intra-operative navigation, pre-operative planning, and surgical training. This educational method offers safe and accessible orthopedic training outside of the operating room and without involving patients directly.
