Care for Orange County's Southeast Asian Communities

Orange County is home to 240,511 Vietnamese Americans—the largest concentration in the United States—who face significant health disparities including higher rates of hepatitis B, tuberculosis, cervical cancer and chronic diseases. With over 35 percent of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) population having limited English proficiency and many navigating cultural barriers to care, bilingual and culturally competent family medicine providers are essential to building trust, improving preventive care, addressing mental health stigma and bridging traditional and Western medical practices.

Your gift to UC Irvine Family Medicine this year will expand our Population Health Management, Research and Implementation (PRIME) initiatives, training more family medicine residents to serve Southeast Asian communities with culturally responsive, high-quality care. By supporting this program, you will help reduce critical health disparities, overcome language and cultural barriers, and ensure that Orange County's diverse communities receive the compassionate, equitable care they deserve. Education and Training

Help us train the next generation of family physicians and address the primary care workforce shortages. With your support, we can continue to provide specialized training in behavioral health, rural medicine and essential procedures—preparing residents to deliver comprehensive, high-quality care in underserved communities. Your investment reduces the financial burden on new doctors choosing primary care and ensures that every community has access to the compassionate, skilled physicians they deserve.

Sports Medicine

UCI Health Sports Medicine provides integrative, multidisciplinary care to athletes at every level—from high school competitors and UC Irvine college athletes to Olympic performers and everyday weekend warriors. We are the first to respond when any athlete is injured, and we take pride in supporting each individual’s recovery so they can return to the sport they love. 

Through our High School Sports Medicine Outreach Program, our physicians volunteer hundreds of hours each year to provide sideline coverage at local football games and offer sports physicals to student athletes across the community. From pre-season screenings to real-time care on the field, our outreach creates a full continuum of support for young emerging athletes—catching hidden conditions early, responding to injuries in the moment and filling a critical gap for schools.
