The UC Irvine Cross-Cultural Center (CCC) is committed to fostering the holistic development of students by providing an affirming and inclusive space where they can explore their intersectional social identities, raise their critical consciousness, build a socially just community, develop meaningful relationships and encourage life-long learning beyond their time at UC Irvine.
With your help, the CCC can continue to offer programs, workshops, and keynote speakers that can further educate students around these topics. More specifically, we hope to support our three signature programs:
Community Roots Festival: One of the Cross-Cultural Center’s longstanding traditions, the Community Roots Festival (formerly known as Rainbow Festival) celebrates our diverse communities. Cultural performances, booths and fundraising opportunities for our affiliated student organizations and a mural contest for our student organizations are featured in this annual fall event for the entire campus community.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium takes place in January/February and features the Dr. Joseph L. White Lecture, workshops and a service-learning project in collaboration with the Office of Campus Organizations & Volunteer Programs. Previous keynote lectures have been delivered by thought leaders including Yolanda King, Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Charles Ogletree, Julian Bond, Harry Belafonte, Lani Guinier, Tim Wise and Yusef Salaam. After a brief hiatus, the keynote lecture this year featured UC Irvine Alum, Dr. Jerell Hill.
Deconstruction Zone: During spring quarter, the Cross-Cultural Center hosts weeklong guided and self-guided tours for participants to learn about various forms of oppression and marginalized communities. Educational passives, thought-provoking exhibits and film screenings are highlights of this annual event for the campus community.
In addition to the above signature programs, your Giving Day gift to the Cross-Cultural Center Support fund will help us further develop and enhance weekly programs such as REAL Talk, Wellness and events planned and executed by our affiliated student organizations. All of our programs not only focus on social justice but also skills that students need to explore different careers and thrive in a diverse workforce.
Thank you for supporting the Cross-Cultural Center this Giving Day!
