UC Irvine Giving Day

Established in 2017, the UC Irvine HELIOS (Healthcare Energized through Listening, Investigation, Opportunities and Services) Lab aims to cultivate the knowledge and workforce to create a more equitable healthcare system. HELIOS Lab members gain clinical, service and research experience in our federally qualified health center sites and complete a year-round professional development curriculum to prepare for careers as clinician leaders working in medically underserved communities.

Since 2018, HELIOS has trained more than 100 predominantly under-represented, Spanish bilingual undergraduates, placing at least 76 into graduate or health professional training programs, including 50 in medical school. 

Our members accumulated a total of 3,746 combined hours of clinical service experience and 1,758 in-person patient interactions in Spanish and English at three safety net clinics around the county.

Student Support: Funding for students currently in the program to attend professional development conferences, access test prep materials and eliminate barriers to excelling in their research and community work.

Summer Stipends: Replace unpaid internships with paid opportunities to participate in intensive summer programs within UCI Health, including our SHARE-FM summer program.  

Transportation Needs: Support for students to travel between various locations for their research and community engagement.
