The Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Irvine (ITS-Irvine) was established in 1974 to foster interdisciplinary research on contemporary transportation issues involving the planning, design, administration, and operation of transportation facilities, initially with a focus on Southern California. Over the years this focus broadened to address many of society’s most pressing transportation issues, regardless of location, and ITS-Irvine established a reputation as one of the leading centers of transportation research and education in the nation.
For many ITS-Irvine graduate students, presenting research at a national or international conference is a career-defining moment, but travel costs can be a real barrier. This Giving Day, ITS-Irvine invites you to make a gift to the Institute of Transportation Studies/Herman Tate Memorial Endowment Fund and help us reduce these financial obstacles for students with need.
Why Student Travel Matters
Conferences are where careers are launched. When an ITS-Irvine student presents at TRB, INFORMS, or the IEEE conferences, they build their professional network, get feedback from global experts, and establish themselves as the next generation of transportation leaders.
But flights, hotels, and registration fees, often $1,200 to $2,000 per trip, put these opportunities out of reach for many students. Your Giving Day gift helps change that, allowing us to:
- Cover airfare, hotel and conference registration fees
- Enable students to present peer-reviewed research globally
- Help students build networks with industry, government and academia
- Support first-generation and underrepresented students especially
- Amplify ITS-Irvine’s presence at top-tier venues worldwide
Make your Giving Day gift today and help put our graduate students in the room where it matters most.
