Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Fellowships
Expand Access to Behavioral Health Care

Real training. Real clinicians. Real community impact.

Your Giving Day gift to Train New Trainers (TNT) Primary Care Fellowships helps fund participation costs for future Fellows, all of whom are primary care providers ready to do more for their patients and their communities.

Every day, patients come to primary care with anxiety, depression, substance use and complex behavioral health needs. Too often, there’s nowhere to send them, or the wait for care takes months. Care is delayed, or sometimes, it doesn’t happen at all.

TNT Primary Care Fellowships at UC Irvine School of Medicine are designed to change that by training the clinicians patients already trust to diagnose, treat and manage behavioral health conditions right where care begins.

Why behavioral health training matters

  • Mental health and substance use cases are rising, but access to care isn’t keeping up
  • Primary care is often the first, and sometimes only, place patients seek help
  • Many clinicians haven’t had the training to fully address behavioral health conditions

This is why patients fall through the cracks, but TNT Fellowships help close that gap.

What this looks like in practice

A patient has an appointment with their primary care clinician (DO, MD, NP, PA, PGY2+ Resident). They don’t leave with a referral and a long wait. Care is provided by a clinician they already trust.

Proven impact

  • 2,000+ clinicians trained
  • Alumni serving patients across 36 states and 47 California counties
  • 86% of Fellows are working in underserved communities

Training includes:

What your support does

Your gift helps cover the participation costs that train working clinicians to deliver real-world behavioral health care in the same setting where patients already receive care.

Each Fellowship costs $15,500 and is designed for busy primary care clinicians:

  • Fellows continue seeing patients while they train
  • They apply what they learn immediately in patient care
  • They expand access to care within their own communities

And the impact multiplies through TNT’s train-new-trainers model, Fellows share their knowledge with colleagues, care teams and systems of care. One clinician becomes many.

Why Giving Day matters

When you give, you’re not just supporting education, you are:

  • Expanding access to behavioral health care
  • Helping clinicians intervene earlier
  • Reducing system bottlenecks and clinician burnout
  • Strengthening care in underserved communities

One trained clinician can impact hundreds of patients each year, and thousands over a career – That’s an incredible ripple effect!

For TNT Alumni: Pay It Forward

If you’re already a part of the TNT community, you’ve seen this impact firsthand. Now, as one of 2,000+ TNT alumni, you have the opportunity to pay it forward to other clinicians.

This Giving Day, consider giving $100–$500 to support the full participation cost (currently $15,500) for a future TNT Fellow.

155 gifts of $100 can fund one Fellow's participation!

Your gift helps train another clinician who will reach hundreds of patients each year, and thousands over a career. This is how we expand access to care for patients and communities – together!

Support a Fellow. Strengthen the behavioral health workforce. Transform care.
