First-Generation Student Success
Help All Students Succeed!

For the SSI family, the last three months have put into perspective what is truly important for our students, faculty, and staff. As we continue to serve and assist UCI students amidst the global pandemic, we are constantly reminded of how important our programs and services are to UCI’s most vulnerable student populations. Now more than ever, we are committed to carrying out our mission of empowering student success by having all of our resources accessible for our students whether they are at home or other remote places.

Given our dedication to students, if you are looking to give to the most pressing needs of UCI’s response to Covid19 you can find our emergency funds here.

According to a recent survey of our students, over 12% of those that responded indicated that they may not return in the fall due to economic hardships and that as traditional campus work study jobs such as catering will not be available there is a deficit of up to 10,000 positions to offer our students. The Division of Undergraduate Education is able to take on over 500 remote work study jobs such as peer advisors to help. If you are interested in being a part of our solution to this pressing need please consider a donation to the Dean’s Excellence Fund.

SSI has always been dedicated to serving and assisting low-income students, first-generation students, undocumented students, former foster youth, transfer students, adult learners, students with dependents, and students with disabilities. Many of these students have faced different forms of hardship and struggle. The delivery of resources to these students has been made more difficult by the pandemic. By providing resources like remote tutoring, individualized academic advising, and peer mentorship, SSI is able to afford students a community of support, which allows students to feel a sense of security as they approach the uncertainties of fall quarter.

We understand that these times have placed significant challenges on many people, and we are grateful for each and every gift we receive from the community. We also know that not everyone is in a position to make a gift and your support is as valuable as those who can. By sharing Giving Day with your friends and family or promoting us on social media, we can continue to support our students and contribute to their future success!
