Vision: A world in which people of all ages are safe within their families and relationships.

Mission: The Initiative to End Family Violence unites an unprecedented range of faculty and community partners to be the premier site for research, education, clinical care, and community collaboration on family violence prevention and intervention.

The Initiative to End Family Violence is unlike any other endeavor in several ways:

1. The Initiative focuses on violence across the lifespan—from child abuse to teen dating violence and sexual assault to elder abuse—which is significant because responses to date have been segmented and siloed (e.g., focusing on child abuse or elder abuse only), Our design intentionally targets the intergenerational and interconnected aspects of family violence.
2. The Initiative combines an unprecedented range of disciplines and experts in violence prevention and treatment across the lifespan. Faculty bring expertise in biological and physical sciences, engineering, information and computer sciences, dance and art, law, medicine, nursing, health sciences, public health, social sciences, social ecology, and more to address family violence in groundbreaking ways.
3. The Initiative combines research, policy, and practice, producing impactful outcomes.

Our ultimate goal is to establish a permanent, interdisciplinary Center to End Family Violence, which will produce pioneering research and develop best practices for violence prevention education and clinical care. At this physical site, abuse survivors could receive coordinated care from medical professionals, therapists, attorneys, advocates, and others.

Additional goals include creating the first-ever minor in Family Violence Prevention and Intervention, and the widespread dissemination of our domestic violence curriculum and medical-legal partnership.
