UCI Giving Day 2023

Our students, faculty members, researchers and alumni have dedicated their careers to finding solutions to today’s most pressing public health issues. We tackle these challenges with our mission top of mind: achievement of health equity for all populations through research, teaching, service and public health practice, locally and globally. At the heart of this mission is our commitment to training a pipeline of future health leaders who will become a workforce that reflects our diverse society.

• Undergraduate Student Scholarships: Thanks to the leadership of our Public Health Alumni Chapter Board, all gifts made to the Public Health – Dean’s Fund for Excellence on Giving Day will support undergraduate student scholarships.
  
  
• Proposed Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) Endowment*: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical importance of a trained and ready public health workforce. The pandemic has also placed increased strain and burden on public health professionals. The 2022 survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs found that 40% of the public health workforce intend to leave their jobs within the next five years. We are well positioned to train the public health workforce of tomorrow and would like to do our part to ensure there are enough professionals to provide the necessary services our country needs moving forward. All gifts made to the Public Health Student Award Fund on Giving Day will contribute to the initiative to establish an endowment that will provide scholarships to our M.P.H. students who will become essential public health leaders.

*If we reach the $25,000 minimum for establishing an endowed fund at UCI by June 30, 2024, an endowment will be established to support students for many years to come. If the minimum is not reached, all funds raised in this campaign will be used to provide current-use support for the Program in Public Health.
