Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

If you missed the opportunity to participate in Giving Day, it’s not too late to support the NICU! You may make a gift anytime using our general online giving form: https://secure.give.uci.edu/?s=NICU

Some babies are born fighters. Whether they are born too small, too soon or too sick, these babies spend their first hours, days and sometimes months fighting for survival.

UCI Health Neonatology Services provide comprehensive care for critically ill premature and full-term infants. The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at UCI Medical Center is one of only two Level III NICUs in Orange County. It is equipped to treat babies born with brain injury from asphyxia, respiratory failure, congenital birth defects and more.

The NICU team is dedicated to serving families, discovering new treatments that help infants survive and thrive, and training the next generation of neonatologists.

You can help give our tiniest patients every opportunity for better days to follow. Here are some examples of how your donation can support our patients, their families and our staff.

  • Gift every family in the NICU and Perinatal Unit with Mommy and Me breastfeeding totes containing essential items such as nursing pillows, milk collectors, nursing bras, breast pads and breast comfort packs for breastfeeding parents. These items help promote optimal breast care for new nursing mothers and support their breastfeeding journey.
  • Support our lactation team by providing them with breastfeeding education displays and models so they can offer comprehensive breastfeeding education to our families and to help staff members become more confident in their breastfeeding practices and knowledge of breastfeeding positioning techniques.
  • Enable our team to provide more education around breastfeeding to patients and the community. The many benefits of breastfeeding need to be recognized and acknowledged for the infant, mother, family and community. Breastfeeding offers newborns ideal nutrition, provides antibodies that help fight infection, supports bonding, improves brain development, and promotes many other favorable short and long-term health benefits. Our goal is to recognize the importance of breastfeeding, increase breastfeeding initiation and duration rates, enhance breastfeeding education tools at UCI Health for staff and our families, and provide breastfeeding essentials care packs to our Perinatal and NICU families.

Your gift, of any size, truly makes a difference for those that become a part of our NICU family.
