Family Medicine & Geriatrics

The Department of Family Medicine Residency Program at UCI School of Medicine is proud to be among the first residency programs to train family physicians in the nation, established in 1969. Our residency program has trained more than 450 family physicians over 54 years through the dedication of countless faculty, staff, and trainees. Our graduates are outstanding community-based family physicians, teachers and leaders, who care for patients, families and communities in California and beyond.

Our department is home to faculty, residents and staff who exude passion for patient care, medical education, scholarship, outreach and community health. We are committed to delivering exemplary clinical care, teaching and scholarship. We practice and teach full-scope family medicine from pre-conception to end-of-life care. We are dedicated to promoting health equity, especially for people and groups that are disadvantaged.

Lastly our departments runs the HELIOS lab, a pipeline program for undergraduates from communities underrepresented in medicine (URiM). Established in 2017, the HELIOS lab includes 28 undergraduate members each year. HELIOS members gain clinical, service and research experience in our federally qualified health center sites, as well as participate in a year-round professional development curriculum.

On UCI Giving Day, we hope you will consider a gift to one of the following below.

Family Medicine General Fund

  • Pipeline Programs to recruit and support students and residents from groups that are under-represented in medicine (URiM). The HELIOS lab undergraduate pipeline program relies on contributions to the Family Medicine General Fund to support student stipends, conference travel awards, MCAT prep materials and other resources for our future physician leaders in the program.
  • Residency Program in solidarity with the Department of Family Medicine residents

Geriatrics/Senior Health Fund

  • Geriatric Medicine to support our Optimal Living & Empowered Longevity Program
