UC Irvine Giving Day 2025

In 2016, Gender Diversity’s medical director, Dr. Ajanta Naidu, set out alongside Dr. Lynn Hunt to create a transgender health program. Since that time, UCI Gender Diversity Program has remained Orange County's sole interdisciplinary transgender health clinic focused on supporting transgender, nonbinary and gender-expansive children, teens, and adults.

Our services include:

• Patient navigation
• Puberty suppression
• Gender-affirming hormone therapy
• Sexual health, education, and HIV prevention
• Specialty referrals
• Community connections and support
• Provider and trainee education
• School and community engagement

Each year, we provide gender care to over 1,000 patients and their families while also striving to educate healthcare providers, communities, and schools to foster a gender inclusive environment for our patients and future generations.

In 2024, Gender Diversity:

• Proudly sponsored OC Pride, OC Transgender Pride, and Mission Viejo Pride.
• Partnered with Alianza Translatinx, Orange County’s premier transgender led nonprofit, to create the TGI Health and Wellness clinic.
• Collaborated with the UCI School of Medicine to create training videos for current and future medical professionals about various LGBTQ health topics.

While there have been many strides made in increasing gender inclusivity in healthcare the transgender community continues to face incredible hardships. In 2025, there have been over 400 anti-LGBTQ bills proposed in the US. Over 200 of these bills and several executive orders seek to block access to best practice gender affirming care, bar transgender youth from participating in sports, and limit transgender people from using public services and facilities. Transgender people from across the country are pursuing refuge in California and looking to the UC system as LGBTQ healthcare equality leaders.

Your support of our program will allow us to improve our engagement with the community we serve, continue creating videos on LGBTQ health topics, and hosting community education events free of cost to transgender people and their allies.
