The School of Humanities offers our students a special on-ramp to a wealth of life and professional experiences after graduation.
Humanities skills like deep critical thinking, effective communication and informed cultural insight are as valuable outside the classroom – in our workplaces and public life – as they are within our university seminar rooms.
This Giving Day we ask your support to strengthen the path for our students from classroom to career with internship, professional development and career exploration opportunities.
Your support can provide paid internship stipends in museums, archives, nonprofits, government and community organizations. You can help foster career-building undergraduate research, professional travel, and hands-on experiential learning.
Humanities students have shared the following impact stories about their experiences beyond the classroom:
"The Steckler Family Initiative in Art History internship stipend has had a meaningful impact on both my academic and personal growth. My experiences meeting people during this program have truly changed me–giving me a clearer understanding of the dedication, collaboration, and behind-the-scenes work required to bring exhibitions to life. This opportunity has taught me so much about the museum field and has affirmed my desire to pursue a career in this industry. Thank you again for your part in making this possible."
– Amelia Cabrales - Steckler Family Initiative in Art History
"This past fall, I was fortunate enough to intern with the Great Park Gallery in Irvine, CA. As an intern, I participated in a broad range of projects and responsibilities: for example, I researched future exhibition concepts, assisted with art supply organization, cataloged past exhibition data, created public program activities and much more. This experience has enabled me to learn the day-to-day activities of operating a city arts department."

"The Humanities Dean’s Gateway Scholarship significantly eases the financial burden of my education, allowing me to focus on my studies and research. I can now pursue opportunities that align with my passion for public service and law, including internships and projects, without the stress of financial constraints holding me back. As I start my senior year, I am thinking a lot about my future, and taking on new projects fills me with a renewed sense of purpose. Your generosity not only supports my education but also inspires me to pay it forward one day. Thank you, truly."
