The UC Irvine Disability Cultural Center (DCC) fosters a sense of belonging, encourages community-building and creates opportunities for mutual aid and self-advocacy. Led by people with disabilities, the DCC aims to raise awareness that destigmatizes disability identity and engenders a campus culture in which people with disabilities can thrive. The DCC recognizes that disability is part of UC Irvine’s diversity initiative and asserts the importance of disability identity and culture at UC Irvine.
The Disability Cultural Center will develop programs that address disabled student needs, such as building a sense of community on campus, provide self-advocacy skills, embrace disability identity and culture and empower students to become leaders in their own communities on campus and beyond.
Disability identity is still an overlooked area in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility efforts across the country, yet UC Irvine is one of over 18 campuses across the country committed to serving the needs of disabled students on campus beyond the Americans with Disabilities Act and other legal compliance. Your contributions will support the official launch of the DCC in the Fall of 2026, and ensure we have the resources to provide accessible and inclusive programs, activities and opportunities for students and the broader UC Irvine community. With your support, we can launch a center that will promote holistic student success, bring greater awareness of disability on campus and foster a sense of belonging.
