Not only does UCI’s Giving Day provide much-needed support for ICS undergraduate and graduate students and their amazing cutting-edge research, but it’s also about investing in the future workforce. ICS is filled with entrepreneurs, innovators, future professors and researchers who are dedicated to making the world a better, safer place – just like you.
Whether you contribute to one of our named funds supporting a specific area close to you, or give to the ICS Dean’s Excellence Fund, you will be making a significant impact on ICS and the lives of our students. More importantly, you will be investing in the future by allowing important research to continue in the areas of AI, bioinformatics, cybersecurity, data science and software engineering, to name just a few of the school’s key research priorities.
With your help, ICS students can and will remain at the forefront of computer science, informatics and statistics, ensuring no student is left behind.
Scholarships & Fellowships
80% of UCI undergraduates receive some form of financial aid and ICS is working harder than ever to provide the means to ensure the financial stability of our students. Recognizing the ever-growing need to provide scholarships and fellowships, your gift to these funds will provide vital resources to accomplish this goal for our students. The Bren School of ICS Student Scholarships fund seeks to support and elevate undergraduate student success and achievement through scholarship. The Graduate Fellowship in Computer Sciences fund seeks to provide support to exceptional graduate level students who are seeking Masters and PhD’s. Gifts to the Richard and Patricia Utts Data Science for Social Good Endowed Award support students pursuing degrees in Data Science or Statistics. Finally, gifts to the Rosalva Gallardo Valencia Software Research Endowment support students who specialize in software research.
Please consider giving today to support the next generation of computer scientists who seek to address the world’s most pressing concerns.
ICS Office of Outreach, Access, and Inclusion (OAI) & ICS Summer Academy
The ICS Summer Academy, supported by the Bren ICS One-Time Gifts fund and managed through the Office of Outreach, Access and Inclusion, began in July 2022 with the goal of connecting high school students from all backgrounds with the opportunity to explore and gain an understanding of what it means to be a computer scientist, as well as showcasing potential careers in computer science. During these summer courses, students learn how to collect, process, summarize and visualize data. UCI graduate and undergraduate students have the opportunity to lead small teams working on projects related to actual datasets, often drawn from biological and medical sciences. Your gift will ensure that ICS can continue to provide the Summer Academy to our local community as well as providing current ICS students the opportunity to develop valuable teaching and mentorship skills.
General Support
Your gift to the ICS - Dean’s Excellence Fund provides a flexible source of funds for high-need areas, including students committed to continuing their research, internal improvements with additions and updates to make classrooms and labs accessible to help people understand and experience alternative ways of interacting with technology and other environments through hands-on access to different tools and assistive technologies.
