The Department of Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is proud to be among the first residency programs to train family physicians in the nation, established in 1969. Our residency program has trained more than 450 family physicians over 54 years through the dedication of countless faculty, staff and trainees. Our graduates are outstanding community-based family physicians, teachers and leaders, who care for patients, families and communities in California and beyond.
Our department is home to faculty, residents and staff who exude passion for patient care, medical education, scholarship, outreach and community health. We are committed to delivering exemplary clinical care, teaching and scholarship. We practice and teach full-scope family medicine from pre-conception to end-of-life care. We are dedicated to promoting health equity, especially for people and groups that are disadvantaged.
Lastly our departments runs the HELIOS lab, a pipeline program for undergraduates from communities underrepresented in medicine (URiM). Established in 2017, the HELIOS lab includes 28 undergraduate members each year. HELIOS members gain clinical, service and research experience in our federally qualified health center sites, as well as participate in a year-round professional development curriculum.
On UCI Giving Day, we hope you will consider a gift to support the department’s priorities for this year:
- Unrestricted funding to support our Discover, Teach, Heal and Serve mission.
- Resident and faculty butterfly ultrasound training. Butterfly is a portable ultrasound machine that transforms patient care, empowering our residents and faculty to seamlessly integrate ultrasound into daily assessments, diagnosis, and treatments.
- Sports medicine fellow support for conference attendance to provide opportunities to learn, network, and gain insights into the latest trends and innovations in the field of sports medicine.
- Prenatal curriculum for Family Medicine residents.
- The HELIOS Lab to support student stipends, conference travel awards, MCAT prep materials and other resources for our future physician leaders in the program.
We welcome your contributions to our quest to promote health for all.
