The UCI Counseling Center is the primary counseling and mental health agency for UC Irvine undergraduate and graduate students. The UCI Counseling Center provides a variety of services, including therapy and outreach and prevention to help students achieve optimal mental health for academic success, personal growth, and increased capacity to cope with the stresses of being a university student. The center strives to elevate the student experience and create pathways to success through a wide range of multiculturally based clinical, outreach, prevention, and training services.
The Counseling Center’s outreach and prevention services provide a unique opportunity to empower, educate, and reach our student body. Your gift enables the Counseling Center to interact with the UCI student community in creative and innovative ways, outside of the therapeutic room, to reduce mental health stigma and prevent suicide.
This year's Outreach and Prevention Services needs include:
National Depression Screening Day
National Depression Screening Day is a health screening day that provides a quick and easy way to spot the first signs of mental health distress. Major Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, affection more than 16 million American adults each year.
Mental Health Resource Fair
The Mental Health Resource Fair is a collaborative event with campus and community vendors providing resource and service information to our UCI Student community. All vendors have a mental health focus but also services targeting our LGBTQ, LatinX, AAPI, and Black/African American populations.
Awareness Week Initiatives and Campaigns
The Counseling Center hosts a variety of programs and events for several awareness weeks throughout the year to bring awareness and education to our campus community, including:
Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Programs
Bringing awareness and education around Suicide Prevention to our campus community is very important to hopefully prevent suicide and suicidal ideation and behaviors amongst our student population. We do this through a variety of suicide prevention and mental health awareness programs such as our Green Bandana campaign and Questions, Persuade and Refer training.
Art of Healing Showcase
The Art of Healing Showcase is a program designed to help students empower themselves and others, as well as decrease mental health stigma by exhibiting visual artwork created by our very own UCI students.
Last year outreach and prevention services reached over 17,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members on the UCI campus. Outreach and prevention services, along with providing Suicide Prevention Trainings to over 545 students, faculty, and staff. These services and programs allow an opportunity for us to reach marginalized communities, reduce stigma around mental health and help seeking, along with preventing students from needing therapy by providing them tools and psychoeducation.
Your Giving Day gift could help safe a life! Help us in spreading messages of hope!
