The Clean Energy Institute (CEI) / Advanced Power and Energy Program (APEP) is an internationally recognized center encompassing the National Fuel Cell Research Center (NFCRC), the UC Irvine Combustion Laboratory (UCICL), and the HORIBA Institute for Mobility and Connectivity (HIMaC).
Our mission is to advance the world’s ability to deploy and utilize clean energy technology, enable the transition to a hydrogen economy, and support the deployment of clean dependable fuel cell systems. We have also created rich educational and cultural opportunities for many of our globally recruited engineering students who are at the forefront of advanced energy strategies that include smart and microgrid design and control, energy systems integration and impacts, advanced fuel cell and combustion power generation, the generation/storage/use of renewable hydrogen and the establishment of hydrogen fueling infrastructure.CEI/APEP is organized to:
Through the integration of these activities, CEI/APEP is advancing the world’s ability to sustainably utilize energy and natural resources. Established in 1970, CEI has impacted decision making at the regional, state, national, and international levels across the spectrum of energy sectors. The Institute embodies a unique philosophy founded on high quality research that bridges between engineering science and the practical application of advanced energy technologies. As a product of this philosophy, CEI/APEP has fostered strategic alliances that engage government regulators, industries, and academic institutions.
Gifts are the cornerstone to the ongoing success of CEI/APEP. Your support this Giving Day helps provide funding that is used to support graduate student fellowships, undergraduate scholarships, new research initiatives, program support and outreach activities such as workshops, seminars and tutorials for a zero emission future.
