Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is a professional society for students interested in biomedical engineering. As the UC Irvine Chapter of BMES, our mission is to promote a collaborative and inclusive community through mentorship, career building, project experience, and outreach opportunities to advance human health through education, innovation, and translation.
To foster an innovative workspace for students to collaborate and develop project ideas that solve unmet healthcare needs, we host technical and entrepreneurial workshops to prepare students for our quarterly competitions, such as the MedTech Pitch Competition and the National BMES Medtronic Student Design Competition. In the last three years, we have had several finalists in the Medtronic Student Design Competition. To continue this success, we will utilize gifts to cover project materials and competition prizes for our members to develop their ideas.
BMES also aims to support the Orange County community. One of our fastest-growing programs is Jr. BME, our high school outreach program for students interested in biomedical engineering. We aim to expose students to techniques and resources to help them succeed in STEM education and careers by hosting seminars with industry professionals and hands-on technical workshops. Donations will help fund BME Day, a conference-like event for high school students to tour labs, speak to professors, alumni, and students, and learn about college life!
Our organization prioritizes giving its members ample opportunities for professional development. We organize career fairs, research symposiums, and company tours tailored to students’ interests and expanding their knowledge of the biomedical industry. BMES aims to expose members to many facets of the biomedical industry and collaborate with companies, as well as provide them with mentorship opportunities. One of the largest is our annual Industry Night which welcomes 20+ companies and post-grad programs to network with 200+ student attendees. Utilizing your gifts, we can host more events with company representatives to foster relationships with nearby companies, as well as provide our members with more opportunities!
With your gift to the Engineering Student Council fund on Giving Day, BMES can develop even stronger programs. Your donation will fund our BME Day and MedTech Pitch Competition. Join us in building a global community for biomedical engineers — where academia and industry collaborate to improve healthcare for those in need!
