UC Irvine's Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering will be celebrating their 6th anniversary this year. As a young department, the department has 17 faculty, and about 253 undergraduates and 82 graduate students. Their faculty has won prestigious awards and grants for their cutting-edge research. “During the past 5 years, we've really worked hard to grow the size, identity and stature of our department,” said department chair Vasan Venugopalan, "Central to the identity of our department is giving our students world-class educational and research opportunities and having them share their activities in a fun and supportive environment during our annual departmental symposium."
The department provides world-class educational and research experiences to train the next generation of leaders that fuses an engineering mindset together with a expertise in chemistry. Chemical & Biomolecular Engineers are best positioned to meet the local and global challenges of this century whether it be developing sustainable electrochemical modes to generate, store and convert energy, manufacturing products, chemicals, and drugs that do not rely on petrochemicals, or development of novel drugs and vaccines to combat emergent public health threats.
We greatly appreciate your financial support to provide our students with modern state-of-the-art educational laboratory equipment and facilities, reward the achievement of exemplary students, and support the recruitment of an outstanding, diverse, and inclusive body of students and faculty.
