Stem Cell Research Center Challenge: Training the next generation of cell and gene therapy workforce

Be one of the first 25 gifts to unlock $8,300 in support of training opportunities for first-generation and underserved students!

As a leading research and educational university, UC Irvine is committed to serving a diverse population at the highest standards. This includes attracting and graduating scholars who mirror the global communities we serve.

The Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) is committed to opening career pathways for first-generation and underserved students pursuing careers in public health and regenerative medicine by providing training opportunities supported by internal and external funding.

Seeing firsthand the incredible value undergraduate training programs bring to our students, several of our SCRC faculty members and friends have committed their support to create a Giving Day challenge.

Thank you to Drs. Aileen Anderson, Brian Cummings, Edwin Monuki, Lisa Flanagan and Sid & Judy Golub for making this generous challenge possible. This Giving Day our goal is to reach at least 25 gifts to unlock $8,300 for undergraduate students training opportunities to:

  • work alongside faculty mentors who are leaders in their field
  • conduct cutting-edge research in Institute facilities and labs
  • learn about careers in academia and industry
  • attend workshops on taking the Graduate Records Exam (GRE), writing a personal statement, and preparing for graduate school
  • make connections valuable to gaining admission to graduate school

A gift of:

  • $100 supports one student’s culminating research presentation
  • $500 supports one student’s summer lab research supplies
  • $1,000 supports one student’s travel expenses to a professional conference
  • $1,500 supports one student’s summer campus dining hall meals
  • $5,000 supports one student’s eight-week student stipend
  • $11,000 supports one participant, covering all program expenses

Your support of our Giving Day challenge is a fantastic opportunity to double the impact of your gift and raise awareness for the truly remarkable undergraduate training initiatives targeted at first-generation and underserved students. Please consider a gift of any size to help us unlock a $8,300 gift from our incredible faculty members and friends!
