Linda Dempsay was named UC Irvine’s athletic director in 1977, making her the first female AD in NCAA Division I history. During a time when Title IX was still very new, Dempsay showcased how women can flourish in leadership roles within sports. Dempsay is a trailblazer for positive change and inclusion not only in our UC Irvine community, but for women in sports across the nation.
The Linda Dempsay Women's Initiative aims to strengthen UCI Athletics women’s sports by providing resources to better the student-athlete experience. We are honored to create this vehicle to promote women’s athletics at UCI, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Title IX.
