The Division of Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine is made up of an interdisciplinary group of clinicians, educators and researchers whose mission is to address the changing health needs of older adults and those who care for them. We are committed to delivering high-quality, comprehensive care in a variety of settings and to providing leadership in geriatric education, research, advocacy and community outreach.
As Americans live longer, the focus of health care must be on making people's later years both healthier and more meaningful. Our goal is to help our patients be their best whether they are in excellent health or in the late stages of such difficult illnesses as Alzheimer's disease or cancer, and to train future physicians and other clinical caregivers to do the same. We are actively developing ways to further integrate physician training in the care of geriatric patients throughout the School of Medicine to ensure that our graduates meet national guidelines in patient care, and that we offer students innovative opportunities to work with older adults and gain experience in caring for patients with dementia.
As the only academic health system in Orange County, we are dedicated to our communities and take our mandate seriously to serve through innovation and compassion. We are the largest group of board-certified geriatricians in Orange County and graduate fellows each year, many of whom stay to live and work in the area. Our training programs serve to educate interdisciplinary learners in medicine, nursing and pharmacy, locally and nationally, and our scholarly impact is felt nationwide.
This year, we hope you will consider making gift to help support our philanthropic priorities for this year:
We welcome your partnership to help provide comprehensive, compassionate care to our older adults at any level.
