The American Society of Civil Engineers student chapter of the University of California, Irvine (ASCE UCI) is an organization dedicated to providing our members with the knowledge and tools they need for their future careers in civil engineering. ASCE UCI offers valuable networking, volunteering, internship, and scholarship opportunities. As a bridge between academia and industry, the student chapter guides students throughout their engineering journey, fostering technical skills, exposure to industry practices, and a supportive community. ASCE UCI chapter's exceptional activities have earned them recognition, placing them among the top third of student chapters in the nation. ASCE UCI continues to inspire and empower future civil engineers, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable world.
Each year, ASCE UCI actively participates in the annual Pacific Southwest Symposium (PSWS), a prestigious and highly anticipated three-day student symposium that brings together fourteen ASCE student chapters from the Southern California region and Hawaii. This event offers an invaluable platform for student chapters to showcase their skills and knowledge and compete in various technical projects, including concrete canoe, steel bridge, geowall, surveying and more. It also offers a unique opportunity for aspiring civil engineers to demonstrate their expertise in disciplines such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying and transportation.
ASCE UCI delivered an outstanding performance at the PSWS 2023. Our dedicated members demonstrated their exceptional talent and commitment, resulting in remarkable achievements. In the Building Information Modeling (Timber Rivet Design) category, our chapter was awarded 1st place, a testament to our team's meticulous planning and designing skills. Additionally, our Timber-Strong Build design team secured 2nd place, further highlighting the passion and effort invested by our members. Each project undertaken by ASCE UCI requires significant effort, careful planning and innovative design thinking. Our members are deeply passionate about civil engineering and are driven to excel in their chosen fields. Through our participation in PSWS and other events, we strive to push boundaries, showcase our abilities and contribute to the advancement of the civil engineering profession.
Attending PSWS allowed our students to expand their technical and soft skills by engaging in hands-on projects and provided them with valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals. ASCE UCI aspires to improve our overall chapter's performance and with your support this Giving Day, we hope to proudly represent the University of California, Irvine at PSWS 2024.
