Department of Chicano/Latino Studies
Only the First Stop for Our Majors!

The Chicano/Latino Studies major is flexible by design, allowing students to start at various points in their undergraduate career and to combine, when they wish, with another major on campus. This means many of our students go onto law school, medical school, graduate programs and careers in public service. Many of these students are first generation, which means they are the first in their families to graduate from a university.

Our mission this Giving Day is to raise $2,500 to support 5 Chicano/Latino Studies majors with up to $500 each for their graduate and professional school applications. Let’s make sure UCI is only the first stop for first generation students. Let’s help launch them into their careers.

The Department of Chicano/Latino Studies at UC Irvine is proud to offer undergraduates a B.A. degree in Chicano/Latino Studies, an undergraduate minor, and our graduate programs which consist of our Graduate Emphasis, UC-CUBA (to promote scholarly study of Cuba by scholars in the United States) and PRIME-LC (to provide training for medical students in treating Latino patients).

Our curriculum is designed to provide an awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of the language, history, culture, literature, and creative (art, dance, drama, film, music) accomplishments of Chicano/Latino communities.

UCI is a federally recognized Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), which means that 25% of our students identify as Latino and we are proud to train them for their bright future.

Your contribution this Giving Day will make sure nothing stops the aspirations of UCI’s incredible first generation students and recent alumni.
