UCI Giving Day 2021

This Giving Day, your support will expand UCI Libraries’ collections to increase digital resources that foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. Your gift to the Collection Enhancement Fund helps to purchase, or acquire access to, books, journals, and other educational materials in all formats (print, online, multimedia, etc.), that support the teaching and research on campus.

Library Collections for All

First-rate library collections make possible ground-breaking faculty research and high-quality student instruction. A vibrant library collection captivates the imagination and provides enlightenment to all people in the community it serves. eBooks and streaming media collections have become increasingly important in a remote learning environment. These collections sustain students’ educational experience, leads researchers to new discoveries, and enhances the Libraries’ role as a major information resource for the campus. 

Your Support Expands Diversity
Diversity is essential in a library, and a diverse library collection contains content by and about a wide array of people and cultures to authentically reflect a variety of ideas, information, stories, and experiences. These materials foster the development of critical thinking skills, empathy, and exploration of themes that build identity. As educators prompt students to explore underrepresented voices and to nurture understanding and dialogue, it is essential for the Libraries to expand the diversity of its resources.

Your Support Advances Inclusion 

As a gateway to knowledge, the UCI Libraries helps meet the interests and abilities of all the people we serve. Creating an inclusive collection requires the acquisition of materials to address popular demand and community input, as well as addressing collection gaps and information needs. 

Your gift will help expand the Libraries’ ebook, documentary, and feature film collections by offsetting the cost to add new titles or additional copies of in-demand titles. 

eBooks

UCI Libraries’ very popular OverDrive ebook platform has allowed us to curate several highly used collections, including, Understanding and Combating Racism Collection, Love is Love: Celebrating PRIDE Month Collection, and Celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Collection. The average cost for adding a new title or additional copies of a title to the platform is $100 per title.  

Films

Kanopy, a highly used streaming platform, features important documentaries and other content. The Swank film collections provides access to Hollywood feature films. The average cost for a one-year license to a film on these platforms is $150.
