The UCI Health Department of Orthopaedic Surgery remains at the forefront of research and treatment. We are excited to expand orthopedic care to the newly planned UCI Medical Center Irvine-Newport, a full-service academic health complex that will bring a broad spectrum of the most advanced healthcare services to coastal and southern Orange County.  

A gift today to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery will support medical education and training for our residents as well as grounding breaking research, such as Dr. Dean Wang’s work:

“Our Chief of Sports Medicine, Dr. Dean Wang, identified a need to regenerate the cartilage that exists within our joints and has dedicated his research career to regenerative orthopedics. His current projects include translational surgery to transplant the laboratory grown cartilage into living subjects, instead of the commonly performed procedure of shaving the injured cartilage in a patient’s knee, hip or shoulder. Our program is also one of the first groups in the world to pursue regenerative cartilage techniques for the facet joints of the spine.”
