UCI Retirees Association

The UCI Retirees Association (UCIRA) advocates for all UCI retirees, provides social and educational activities and contributes to campus life with staff and student scholarship efforts.

With support from you we:

  1. Develop lectures, wellness and cooking classes and information sessions (online this last year) as well as continue monthly group walks, hikes and bike rides.
  2. Contribute annually to the Staff Assembly Scholarship Program helping staff continue their education as well as the Legacy Scholarships for incoming students.
  3. Maintain UCI’s representation in the UC system-wide Council of UC Retirees Associations (CUCRA), advocating for health insurance and other critical retirement benefits.

Our goal for Giving Day 2021 is to continue to raise money for our UCIRA Legacy Scholarships. Since 2019, we have awarded $12,000 in scholarship money to new freshmen and new transfer students.

These scholarships were developed for students related to a UCI retiree, UCI alumni, or current UCI staff member. (Family member must be a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, sister, brother, aunt, or uncle.)

The recipients for the 2020-21 academic year are:

Without this scholarship, around this time, I would be planning to take out another loan or have to ask my family for money.”

A person with a beard
Description automatically generatedVivian Liu, a freshman recipient, and Biological Sciences major: “Because of my mom having no luck in finding a job and my dad having his hours cut, it has been tough, but the scholarship has helped lessen the stress for me when it comes to paying for my classes and my housing situation.”
